The food that makes your vitamins work harder

Just because you consume vitamins doesn’t mean they do you any good. But there’s an important food you should be eating that can help your vitamins keep you healthier.

A study at The Ohio State University shows that avocadoes can help you absorb increased amounts of natural chemicals in vegetables that your body needs to create vitamin A and put it to use.

So if you eat an avocado with foods like carrots, tomatoes or spinach, you absorb more carotenoids (antioxidant plant pigments) and your body will make more of those carotenoids into vitamin A.

The resulting vitamin A can boost your immunity, promote fertility, keep your skin healthier and support better vision.

The researchers found that eating an avocado with a carrot:

  • Increases the absorption of beta carotene by 6.6 times.
  • Multiplied alpha carotene absorption by 4.8 times.
  • Caused the body to increase the production of vitamin A 12.6 times.
