How Big Pharma Gets Doctors To Sell You More Expensive Drugs

How Big Pharma Gets Doctors To Sell You More Expensive Drugs

Apr 18, 2014 by

Doctors may think that they make dispassionate, objective decisions about what medicines their patients should be taking. But a study of their prescription habits shows that they are the serfs of the drug companies whether they are conscious of it or not. When researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine examined the effect of providing free drug samples to dermatologists, they found that doctors who received the samples were more likely to write prescriptions for more expensive pharmaceuticals. The researchers report that free drug samples tilt the prescription tendencies of doctors to favor brand name drugs over cheaper generic medicines. Patients and health insurance...
New Effect Of The Whooping Cough Vaccine

New Effect Of The Whooping Cough Vaccine

Apr 16, 2014 by

Researchers in Australia have made a disturbing discovery about changes that are occurring in the bacteria that cause whooping cough. And they think these dangerous adaptations by the disease are in response to the whooping cough vaccine. When the Aussie researchers examined the bacteria Bordetella pertussisf, which causes whooping cough, they found that many varieties no longer possess a surface protein called pertactin. By not having that protein on its surface, the microorganism can hide from the immune system more easily and infect more people. "It's like a game of hide and seek. It is harder for the antibodies made by the body's immune system in response to vaccination to 'search...
The Dangers Of Taking Viagra When You Don’t Need It

The Dangers Of Taking Viagra When You Don’t Need It

Mar 27, 2014 by

Many men may be tempted to enhance their sexual performance with drugs for erectile dysfunction (ED) when they don’t really need them. But abusing these drugs can really damage your health and is not recommended. Drugs like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are all part of a drug family called phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors. They are meant to help men with ED, but are not meant for recreational use -- even though these drugs are commonly misused by men who do not have ED. The drugs help men get an erection, but they are not meant for men who simply want a longer or larger erection. The dangers of misusing ED drugs include: Drug dependence. Developing ED when not using the...
Fluoride, Other Chemicals Linked To Brain Development Disorders

Fluoride, Other Chemicals Linked To Brain Development Disorders

Many years ago, I called fluoridation of the drinking water chemical warfare on the American people. Sodium fluoride is added to most American drinking water under government fiat. American dentists recommend using fluoride toothpaste. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calls fluoride one of the “ten greatest public health achievements of the 20th Century.” They don’t tell you it is a poisonous pesticide and industrial waste product. Just a half tube of the flavored toothpastes marketed to children contains enough fluoride to kill them. A new study by the Harvard School of Public Health and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and published in The Lancet...
The Tamiflu Cover-Up

The Tamiflu Cover-Up

Many people who suffer from the flu take the drug Tamiflu which is supposed to fight the infectious virus that causes influenza. But does Tamiflu reduce your complication of dying from the flu? Nobody really knows because the drug company that makes the medication has withheld many relevant studies of the drug. Dr. Ben Goldacre, writing in The Guardian, points out that “Astonishingly, in withholding this information for five years, Tamiflu's makers, Roche, have broken no law -- and it is only an accident of history that this drug has become the poster child for change.” Goldacre argues that Big Pharma, in cahoots with regulators like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), have...
Why Vaccines Don’t Work

Why Vaccines Don’t Work

Mar 20, 2014 by

A storm of controversy surrounds vaccinations. Do they lead to autism in kids? Do they have terrible side effects? And research at Harvard shows that toxins in our homes, food and water may be the reason many vaccines don’t even protect against getting sick. The Harvard scientists found that children heavily exposed to chemicals called perfluorinated compounds, often incorporated in food packages and non-stick cookware, do not respond well to vaccines. In reaction to vaccination, their bodies often do not produce enough antibodies to protect them against illness. That makes the vaccination worthless. "Fluorine-substituted organic compounds have thousands of important industrial and...
Do TV Ads For Drugs Endanger Your Life?

Do TV Ads For Drugs Endanger Your Life?

Mar 19, 2014 by

There’s a good reason drug companies run ads for their drugs on TV. They increase sales and profits. But research results show that those same pharmaceutical pitches may be harming your health. Your health risk rises when a commercial convinces you that you need a particular prescription. The reassuring spokesperson the video screen, the soothing music and the promise of less physical discomfort can be irresistible. The consequence: You may end up taking a drug you don’t need that produces serious, undesirable side effects. A study shows that if you ask your doctor for a drug that’s being peddled on TV, your doctor very well may prescribe it for you even if you don’t need...
Popular Antidepressant Linked To Breast Cancer Tumors

Popular Antidepressant Linked To Breast Cancer Tumors

Mar 08, 2014 by

An antidepressant commonly prescribed for women undergoing breast cancer treatment has been shown to promote the development and growth of breast tumors in women. Researchers at the City of Hope Cancer Research Center in Duarte, Calif., screened 446 drugs in wide circulation to identify how they disrupt the balance of sex hormones in humans and influence the development and progress of diseases like breast cancer. They found that paroxetine -- better known by its commercial name Paxil -- has a weak estrogenic effect that could promote the development and growth of breast tumors in women. Paxil was being taken by about a quarter of the depressed cancer patients in City of Hope’s...
Was There Cancer In Your Supermarket Meat?

Was There Cancer In Your Supermarket Meat?

A recent recall of about 9 million pounds of beef from a slaughterhouse in California may have been linked to the slaughter of cows with cancer. The questionable beef distributed by the Rancho Feed Corporation, ordered recalled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), reportedly was included in meat sold at Wal-Mart and incorporated in Nestle’s Hot Pockets. The USDA will not comment on its investigation of the plant. But press reports suggest some of the cows being slaughtered were old dairy cows with eye cancer. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, "Rancho, we're told, was slaughtering them, somehow after hours or in other ways where the inspector didn't know about it....
The Right Way To Deal With A Headache

The Right Way To Deal With A Headache

Mar 01, 2014 by

I have a friend who suffers from migraines. The young lady of whom I speak has suffered from this condition for most of her life, and the migraines are often debilitating. For years, she sought answers from conventional medicine, until she got some unusual advice in an emergency room. The young lady in question recently visited her local emergency room twice in the space of five days for two separate migraines. On the first visit, she was given a shot, often referred to as the “magic shot.” It consisted of Phenergan and “enough Demerol to bring down a bull elephant” -- in the words of the on-call physician. The shot made her fall asleep for about three hours, after which she...
