Take a sip of the ultimate brain drink

If you want to maximize your brainpower and keep your memory razor sharp, there’s a cheap, miracle brew that you need because it’s a brain cell’s best friend.

It’s a safe bet that no other beverage has been shown in scientific research to be as helpful to your thinking capacity as green tea.

Most recently, a study in Japan shows that as people age, the ones who drink the most green tea have the best chance of avoiding the memory-loss of dementia.

The Japanese researchers found that having a cup of tea at least once a week was linked to a better memory and brain function. Folks who never had green tea had lower scores on memory and thinking tests. The non-tea drinkers also fell down in other areas associated with brain power – They enjoyed fewer hobbies, had fewer years of education and exercised less.

But this is just the latest study in a wide collection of research demonstrating green tea’s benefits for your brain:

  • A study at the University of Basel in Switzerland shows that compounds in green tea help your working memory. The researchers discovered that green tea helps the various parts of the brain communicate more effectively.
  • Research at the First Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning Medical University in China, demonstrates that nutrients in green tea protect neurons against oxidative stress.
  • Data compiled at Japan’s National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center finds that green tea can protect the brain against the chance of suffering a stroke. Drinking four cups of green tea a day drops your risk of stroke by 20 percent.
  • Scientists at the University of Michigan have shown that green tea’s phytonutrients hinders the formation of the destructive brain plaques that are connected to Alzheimer’s disease.

Tea should be celebrated for it’s amazing health benefits.Remarkably enough, all of these brain benefits are in addition to green tea’s proven ability to shrink your risk of cancer. That’s why I consider green tea to be a miracle brew. It’s impossible to think of another drink that produces so many amazing results with every cup.

My favorite green tea for the summer months is iced green tea. Here’s the recipe I follow:

  1. First I pour boiling water over a few tea bags, cover them, and let the whole thing steep for 5 minutes.
  2. Then what I do is remove the tea bags, but squeeze them over the water to get as much of the polyphenols from the leaves into my tea.
  3. Then I stir in a little bit of cold water to lower the temperature so I don’t melt all the ice.
  4. I pour it over ice and add a couple of mint leaves, and enjoy on a hot day!
