Vitamin C May Strengthen Bones

While many experts recommend vitamin D and calcium supplements to boost bone strength, researchers are now finding that vitamin C may be just as important.

A laboratory study by researchers at Mount Sinai School of Medicine shows that vitamin C may protect bones from the weakening effects of osteoporosis.

“This study has profound public health implications, and is well worth exploring for its therapeutic potential in people,” says lead researcher Mone Zaidi, M.D. “The medical world has known for some time that low amounts of vitamin C can cause scurvy and brittle bones, and that higher vitamin C intake is associated with higher bone mass in humans.”
