The symptoms of metabolic syndrome include: a big waistline, high triglycerides (blood fats), high blood pressure, low HDL (good) cholesterol and elevated blood sugar. A study at the University of Connecticut has found that egg yolks may increase HDLs and decrease triglycerides, offsetting some of the negative qualities of metabolic syndrome.

Eggs are rich in protein, vitamins and other nutrients. But always choose organic.

“Eating egg yolks was actually associated with enhanced health benefits in these high-risk individuals,” explains Dr. Maria Luz Fernandez, lead author of the study. “Subjects consuming whole eggs had greater increases in HDL cholesterol and more significant reductions in the LDL/HDL cholesterol ratio than those who ate (a) cholesterol-free egg substitute.”
