A food for fighting diabetes and helping you lose weight

If you can’t seem to lose your excess weight and those extra pounds are making you more prone to diabetes, research shows there’s a food you should be having at dinner that may help control your blood sugar and boost your weight-loss efforts.

A study at the University of Buffalo demonstrates that eating portobella mushrooms can reduce your blood sugar reaction when you eat carbohydrates. The effect, according to this research, is especially pronounced in women.

“Our results indicate that consumption of mushrooms could be useful in regulating glucose levels,” says researcher Peter Horvath. “This alone may benefit individuals attempting to lose weight and who want to exercise for a longer time.”

In this research, the scientists generally found that the mushrooms slowed spikes and drop in blood glucose (sugar) and moderated the insulin response to sugar consumption.
