Jot Down Your Feelings To Get Your Weight Down

Overeating may be tied to emotional hang-ups. But getting a handle on your feelings by writing them down may help you lose your love handles.

Recently, a study published in Psychological Science found that women who participated in a 15-minute writing exercise focused on discussing their close relationships, music or religion lost more weight than those who did not.

According to researchers, this weight loss difference may be a product of women feeling better about themselves after writing about what's important to them. Also, study participants may have turned to writing in place of snacking when something was bothering them.

"My dream, and my research goal, is to get this [writing exercise] to the point where people can do it deliberately to benefit themselves," said researcher Christine Logel. "There’s certainly no harm in taking time to reflect on important values and working activities you value into your daily life."
