In the kitchen with Kelley: Cajun Seasoning

My father was an excellent cook. I used to enjoy watching him throw a meal together with a dash of this and a pinch of that. Luckily, I seem to have taken after my father when it comes to cooking skills. I don’t shy away from spices, mainly for two reasons: I like my food to be flavorful, and I know that many spices have health benefits.

This recipe contains cayenne pepper, for example, which has antibacterial properties and is a well-known digestive aid. So if you like your food hot and spicy, try cayenne pepper.

I’m sharing this Cajun Seasoning recipe because it’s a family favorite and very versatile. I use it often to jazz up almost anything, including Cajun Roasted Cauliflower. Enjoy, but keep a glass of water nearby…

Cajun Seasoning

1/8 cup sea salt
1/8 cup cayenne pepper
1/8 cup paprika
1/8 cup garlic powder
1/8 cup ground black pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried thyme

1. Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight container.
