In the kitchen with Kelley: Pomegranate Slush

My daughter has a sweet tooth. But she’s been on a health kick lately, and she’s trying to eat and drink healthy. Since we have a family member with diabetes, I want to encourage her to make healthy choices. At the same time, I know that she truly craves sweet things. So I’ve searched for recipes that are healthy and sweet, so that she doesn’t feel deprived.

She’s a huge fan of pomegranate juice, and she really likes ice-cold drinks. So this Pomegranate Slush has quickly become a favorite of hers.

According to Leo Galland, M.D., one benefit of pomegranate juice is that it fights inflammation. Galland wrote:

Whenever it’s been studied, unsweetened pomegranate juice has been more effective than any single component.
Not only does pomegranate juice contain potent phenolic antioxidants, like other brightly colored fruits, but pomegranate juice contains unique complex sugars that are anti-inflammatory on their own.

Pomegranate Slush

Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsweetened pomegranate juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 cups ice
Instructions
  1. Put pomegranate juice, honey and ice in a blender.
  2. Blend until slushy and then serve.
