Green tea has a wealth of health benefits: helping to keep eyes healthier, hearts stronger and cancer at bay. And now researchers in Brazil have found another. This beverage may protect your teeth against erosion caused by drinking cola soft drinks.
One of the prime complaints against all soft drinks is the fact that they dissolve tooth enamel. But when laboratory researchers at the Bauru School of Dentistry in Sau Paulo did an experiment in which they immersed teeth in cola soft drinks with and without green tea added, they found that supplementing the soft drink with green tea reduced enamel erosion by up to 40 percent.
Of course, if you really want to do your teeth and body good, don’t just follow a glass of Coke with a cup of green tea. Skip the soft drink altogether and drink only the tea.
