4 best foods to treat erectile dysfunction (slideshow)

Beetroot Juice

You Can’t Beat Beets For Erectile Dysfunction

Beet root is one of the best foods to help men with ED. Beet root works in a similar way to the popular ED drug Viagra. Viagra increases nitric oxide levels, which dilates blood vessels and increases blood flow to the penis (erections require good blood flow).

Beets are naturally high in nitrates, which are converted to nitrites in your mouth when you eat them. The stomach converts the nitrates to nitric oxide, which dilates blood vessels and blood flow, similar to Viagra’s action.

There are some other vegetables that are also high in nitrates such as carrots, radishes, celery, lettuce and turnip greens. But beet root has the highest level of nitrates of all the vegetables.

Even if you find that beets help improve your symptoms, however, it may get old eating them every day.

If you like the effect of beets but you prefer not to eat them all the time, you might be a good candidate for taking a daily beet root supplement. In fact, many athletes use beet root to naturally — and legally — enhance their performance as well. It was reported that up to 90 percent of the athletes at the last summer Olympics used beet juice to enhance their performances.
