5 kinds of black mold (and where they hide)

4. Alternaria

This is the most common form of allergenic mold. It’s commonly seen outdoors as dark spots on leaves and degenerative diseases on trees.

Quite opportunistic, alternaria can hitch a ride on a summer’s day breeze and find its way into your home.

It grows anywhere dampness occurs: showers, tubs, under leaking sinks.

For people with mold sensitivities, alternaria can cause serious respiratory tract infections, and can be dangerous for older folks or anyone with COPD.
