CYP2C19 is an enzyme that acts to metabolize many commonly used drugs. Since cannabidiol inhibits the action of CYP2C19, it can cause elevated levels of these drugs to remain in the bloodstream, causing side effects and drug interactions.
Many common blood thinners, anti-seizure drugs, and ulcer medications fall into this group, as well as diazepam, a common anti-anxiety drug.
