6 foods (and 5 other things) to get you out of a funk naturally

Improve your mood

Other things that will lift your mood

Again, clinical depression should be addressed by a professional. But sometimes, you’re just “in a funk,” as they say. You can’t get going, feel unmotivated by things that you usually enjoy, or need something to jumpstart your mood. Here are a few things that will help:

Music
Singing is a natural antidepressant. It boosts the immune system and has been shown to improve symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Playing some tunes and humming along can affect your brain just enough to boost your mood.

Do a good deed
Helping someone else releases feel-good endorphins in the brain, automatically alleviating feelings of sadness.

Drink some water
Even mild dehydration can make you cranky and cognitively slow. Make sure you drink enough throughout the day.

Get outside
It will lift your mood, lower your blood pressure and relieve stress. Even better, take your dog with you. Being around pets is a proven mood-booster.

Eat
You’ve probably heard the word “hangry,” a combination of hungry and angry. Don’t let yourself get to that point. Eat when you’re hungry and avoid feeling sad, angry, and physically drained. The paleo-vegan diet reportedly ends “hangry.”
