1. Stretching and Yoga

Since sciatica can start when the nerve is pinched at either the spinal level or by the piriformis muscle, a triangular shaped muscle in your buttocks, stretching and yoga can give you relief. Poses that strengthen your core muscles and stretch the piriformis are especially helpful.

Tip: To stretch the piriformis while seated (at home or at work,) simply cross the ankle of one foot over the knee of the opposite leg and bend forward at the waist. Hold for 30 seconds and slowly release. Do this three times, and then repeat on the opposite side.
