7 ways to bring healing energy to your life

Getting there was no breeze for sure…

By the time I first became aware of the August solar eclipse, the closest place I could go to see it would be Portland — but all flights were already sold out.

Instead, I found a 6:20 am flight out of San Diego to Salt Lake City where I would join my two sons and my son-in-law. The next morning, we left at 4:00 am and drove 3 1/2 hours north into Idaho… into the projected “path of totality.”

The journey for me and my small band of travelers began to take on the feel of a spiritual pilgrimage, as we realized the scope of the mass migration we’d become part of…

When we arrived, you could feel the excitement. Most people were already there, camping or sleeping in their cars. Soon, the tiny exit road off the freeway also filled up. The sun was super bright in the perfect crisp, blue Idaho sky… and we were not to be disappointed.

Indescribable feelings

The eclipse began. The early partial eclipsing was really nothing so special, actually. We watched it with no particular expectation other than that the sun would be blocked out for 2 minutes.

The sun’s rays were slowly diminishing as if controlled by a dimmer light switch. As the time for the total eclipse neared, the dimming accelerated. Then, as the final blip of sunshine stopped, the show suddenly got much more exciting…

Totality in its initial moment was indeed unique. There went up cheers and gasps from the people all around us. We, too, could not restrain our sudden surprise and awe.

We watched the magnified view through a telescope and were able to see in real life the massive solar flares shooting randomly out a ring of light behind the dark moon in all directions.  We saw the shadows of the moon’s mountain ranges (Baily’s beads[1]). But it was nothing compared to what we all experienced next…

Within just a few seconds into totality, something unexpected occurred. The shouting dimmed to a collective silence. Then, beyond the visible excitement, there began to be an indescribable and almost palpable blast of emotion that filled our bodies and minds.

It grew each moment. Soon we were being bathed in a wonderful feeling of joy that penetrated into what felt like every cell of our bodies. In the darkness, we each independently were experiencing it, and tears were flowing (which we didn’t discover until the lights came back on).

You can call it love, peace, joy, excitement, or other adjectives. I now call it “eclipse juice.”

Finding your eclipse juice

It was certainly an amazing and humbling experience. I also believe it was a healing experience…

Positive energy represents an important, foundational principle for healing in general — and from any chronic illness, including cancer.

Emotions, “energies in motion,” powerfully influence the immune system and other bodily functions. For optimal health, you have to avoid negative energies like fear, anxiety, resentment, anger, and guilt that, studies show, weaken your immune system. Negative feelings can slow healing and may feed cancer growth.

It’s not every day that “eclipse juice” can bring these feelings of positive energy into your life, so it’s important for you to surround yourself with “energy enhancers” in other ways… here are a few I’d like to suggest:

  1. Relationship of love
You must have a connection to someone close to you who creates a loving feeling. Feeling lonely or being in a relationship that doesn’t feel good is the worst thing for your energy and health. In fact, loneliness and social isolation are as bad for you as smoking. There must be trust, and a knowing that another person really is connected. You can find this connection not only in romantic love but in a sincere friendship or close family relationship. Be open to it.
  2. Physical touch and massage therapy
Physical loving touch always creates an energetic shift in the body toward healing. Massage therapy also works this way. It can move lymphatic flow mechanically, thus improving immune system function.  Massage stimulates endorphins (morphine-like chemicals) that improve mood while aligning thoughts and feelings with healing on a quantum physics level.
  3. Music therapy
Healing music creates a frequency within the body that, when combined with the intention to heal, has remarkable power. Find the music that most brings peace, gratitude, and bliss into your mind and feeling state. Listen to it throughout your day or at least when you need energizing.
  4. Meditation with guided imagery
This therapy is best when performed by a trained and experienced professional. While on a massage table, for example, the therapist guides you to visualize specific memories in your life, encourages you to feel the emotions associated with that memory and then guides you through clearing these feelings attached to the memory. You may discover hidden resentment, anger, fear or guilt that is replaced with forgiveness, calm, confidence, self-forgiveness and peace.
  5. Energy work
The concept of energy work includes all modalities performed by therapists using their hands, mind, and feelings. This is not from a machine. Energy work by a therapist takes considerable time. In theory, all healing energy is innate within humans and can be channeled through humans from a higher dimension. Examples of energy work include Reiki, Quantum Touch, Body Talk, Chi Gong and others.
  6. Exercise
Moderate exercise, such as yoga or walking for at least 45 minutes daily is recommended. Make sure your exercise is peaceful and relaxing.
  7. Sunlight
Weather permitting, get 20 minutes of near full-body sun exposure daily. This has been shown to deliver 20,000 units of active vitamin D into your circulation in most people within just 2 days. Emerging studies prove vitamin D has anti-cancer benefits. It also helps prevent diabetes, heart disease, and osteoporosis.1 Contrast this with vitamin D milk which provides only 100 units. There is strong evidence suggesting that sunlight is protective against breast, colon, ovarian and prostate cancers. Sunshine also heals by boosting mood.

For me, our eclipse experience was very personal and I feel I received a special, sacred message for my life: There is love beyond description out there — a Divine love. And: There is ultimately nothing to fear, in the here and now or in the afterlife.

From this, I learned that we can relax and trust that each life experience has purpose (though we may doubt it in the moment) and is perfect for each of us.
