The supplement that prevents weight gain even when you’re overeating

The only surefire way to lose weight is to exercise and eat healthy. That means no greasy fries. No sugary milkshakes. No fast food burgers.

But sometimes you slip up. And when you do, all your hard work goes down the drain. Your blood sugar spikes. Your body goes into inflammation mode. And all the weight comes back.

But what if there was a way to protect your progress when you make those inevitable mistakes?

New research suggests that there may be. The extract of an Amazonian fruit could speed up your metabolism even when you go on a regrettable junk food binge. Plus, it could keep your blood sugar stable and prevent inflammation.

How camu camu prevents weight gain

The latest study from researchers at Université Laval and the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute Research Centre found that extract from the Amazonian fruit camu camu prevents obesity in mice fed a junk food diet.

Researchers divided mice into two groups. Both groups received a high sugar, high fat diet. But one group also received camu camu extract every day. After eight weeks, the mice who received the camu camu extract gained 50 percent less weight than the mice who didn’t.

They also had better glucose tolerance (their cells were better able to absorb glucose) and insulin sensitivity (their cells required less insulin to lower blood sugar). Plus, they had less endotoxins (toxins from bacteria) in their blood and less inflammation.

To top it all off, they had positive changes in their microbiome. They had more of the beneficial bacteria Akkermansia muciniphila and less Lactobacillus bacteria. Researchers believe it’s these microbial changes that made the mice more resilient to weight gain.

There’s plenty of existing evidence that the bacteria in your gut can either help you lose weight or make weight loss impossible. So, any supplement that gets the bacteria in your gut on your side could be a major breakthrough if you’re struggling with weight issues.

Should you try camu camu?

Even though camu camu helps mice maintain a healthy weight, we don’t know how it will affect weight loss in people quite yet.

But the good news is, people already take camu camu for plenty of other issues. It’s used to fight fatigue, reduce stress and support the immune system. That means, it’s safe and it’s readily available at health food stores.

Camu camu is jam-packed with vitamin C and antioxidants. It has 20 to 30 times more vitamin C than kiwis, and five times more polyphenols than blackberries.

So, if you want to try camu camu to support your weight loss efforts, give it a shot. Worst case, it won’t affect your weight at all. But you’ll still get a healthy dose of antioxidants and vitamin C.

Editor’s note: Are you feeling unusually tired? You may think this is normal aging, but the problem could be your master hormone. When it’s not working, your risk of age-related diseases skyrockets.
