The deep wrinkle treatment you breathe in

We can count the passing of the years not just in our memories but in the wrinkles on our faces.

And, while it’s nice to call those wrinkles a sign of wisdom or a life well-lived, most of us would still rather turn back the clock, at least when it comes to our skin.

Luckily, according to one scientific study, there might be a simple solution to do just that.

Here’s why…

Lessen UV damage

It’s no secret that UVB radiation caused by the sun causes wrinkles and a thickening of the outer layer of your skin — you know, that leathery look that’s great on a purse or jacket but not on your face.

According to scientists, this “sun-weathered” look is merely evidence of what’s happening on a molecular level beneath your skin’s surface, however.

You see, when your skin is repeatedly exposed to UVB radiation, like when you’re working on your tan, new blood vessels form from existing blood vessels in your skin causing this thickening and wrinkling.

Seeking to overcome this problem, researchers in Japan theorized that exposure to oxygen could stop this process and, possibly even prevent wrinkles.

The researchers assigned 24 hairless mice into three groups – a control group, a group that would be exposed to UVB and one that would be exposed to UVB but then placed in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Here’s what they found…

Over five weeks, the mice in the UVB and UVB plus hyperbaric oxygen groups developed wrinkles, but the wrinkles were more pronounced in the UVB group.

Likewise, both the UVB and UVB plus oxygen group experienced increased skin thickness, but again, this result was more pronounced in the UVB group.

In other words, exposing the mice to oxygen helped to prevent the skin damage and wrinkling caused by UV radiation.

It may not be a household word, but nitric oxide has been recognized in over 130,000 published scientific papers as a vital signaling molecule that keeps blood vessels healthy and blood pressure in the healthy range. But as you age, your cells produce less and… MORE⟩⟩

Oxygenating your skin

While I’m sure you’d love to jump into a hyperbaric oxygen chamber right now, that’s probably not an option for most of us.

So, what can you do to oxygenate your skin to improve its texture and decrease wrinkles?

First, get more active. You see, that beautiful glow that you get after exercise — no, I’m not using glow as a euphemism for sweat — I’m talking about that rosy color in your cheeks.

Well, it’s a sign that your sign of all the oxygen-rich blood bathing your skin cells.

So, boost the health of your skin through regular exercise.

You can also amp up your circulation and the delivery of oxygen to your skin by alternating hot and cold showers. Start with hot water for two minutes, followed by cold for one and repeat four times.

You can also eat foods that help your production of nitric oxide (NO), like watermelon and beets. NOs role in the body is to help blood vessels dilate so oxygenated blood flows easily.

Next, be sure to use deep breathing techniques to raise your oxygen levels even more. Set an alarm to remind yourself to take 10 deep, lung-filling breaths at least 10 times each day.

And, for even more wrinkle-fighting O2, head to the spa and try an oxygen facial, where they use an airbrush to blast your skin with pure oxygen.

Your wrinkles may be hard-earned but they don’t have to show the roadmap of your life. Stop UV damage and improve the texture of your skin with the power of oxygen.
