The enzyme that gives you a ‘taste’ for weight loss

I don’t know if I’ve ever met anyone who didn’t want to lose a few pounds… After all, our American diet doesn’t exactly lend itself to staying thin.

However, if you’ve ever tried to lose weight, you know what a struggle it can be — and, just when you’ve finally dropped the weight, you gain it right back.

That’s because it’s just so easy to fall right back into your old eating habits.

But, what if I told you, there was a simple way to curb your appetite and make better food choices… And, all that’s required of you is to drink a delicious broth prior to each meal.

Here’s what you need to know…

A naturally occurring amino acid that decreases your appetite

You may have heard the word “umami” before…

They use it a lot on those cooking shows since it a Japanese word that means a savory taste. It’s actually one of the five basic tastes your tongue can recognize along with sweet, salty, bitter and sour.

And, what gives that special “umami” taste is a naturally occurring amino acid known as glutamate — one that’s found in nearly all foods, especially ones high in protein like fish, meats and dairy products.

Previous scientific studies have shown that drinking an umami-rich broth or soup (one supplemented with MSG — a glutamate salt) can help decrease both appetite and food intake, especially for women with a tendency to overeat and pack on the pounds.

This led researchers at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to evaluate changes in the brain of women after consuming broth with and without MSG to determine how glutamate helps in the battle against the bulge.

Here’s what they found.

Women who drank broth containing glutamate before eating a meal at a buffet:

  • Made healthier food choices
  • Consumed less saturated fat during the meal
  • Were better at self-regulation in food choices
  • Had more focused gazes during the meal (meaning they weren’t distracted by other food choices on the buffet)

Basically, the glutamate allowed the women to choose healthier foods and not be distracted by all of the unhealthy food offering on the buffet that would add up to pounds and inches on their hips and thighs.

A better source of glutamate

With that said though, we all know that MSG has a downside…

It’s been linked to headaches, digestive problems, heart palpitations and even chest pains.

But that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck.

You can still get your glutamate fix in an umami-rich broth prior to your meal to control your appetite and boost your weight loss.

The key is to switch out the MSG for safe foods that are packed with glutamate, like:

  • Mushrooms
  • Tomatoes
  • Broccoli
  • Walnuts
  • Fish sauce

Just remember to drink a cup of whichever type of glutamate rich broth you choose to make before each meal and you’ll be well on your way to savoring your weight loss.
