Why the Japanese eat seaweed daily (and you should, too)

Arame has a mild, sweet flavor

Arame

Arame is actually brown kelp. It’s a great choice for seaweed beginners. It has a mild, sweet flavor, rather than tasting salty or like ocean water.

Arame is easy to incorporate into your diet. It’s usually purchased as dried strands that just need to be soaked in cold water for five minutes before use.

Just add it to any clear broth, or try sautéing it with onions, squash, and peppers as a side dish or topping for grilled meat. It’s also decent as an occasional stand-in for spaghetti.

A tablespoon of dried arame provides 0.7g of iodine and is rich in Vitamin A, calcium, iron, zinc, manganese and magnesium.
