The secrets behind the war on coconut oil

The heart-healthy truth about coconut oil they’re still trying to hide could cost you dearly…

It could also cost pharmaceutical giants who are raking in the big bucks, while working double time to keep this cholesterol secret…

Namely, that people with higher cholesterol live longer!

That’s why they will do just about anything to fuel their $100 billion market for the cholesterol-lowering drugs known as statins, including catching the American Heart Association up in their greedy web of deceit…

A front for Big Pharma?

The American Heart Association has known since at least 1994 that low cholesterol is associated with an increased risk of death. Yes, you read that correctly!

A study presented at its annual stroke conference in 1999 showed that cholesterol levels under 180 are just as likely to produce a stroke as levels above 230. In other words, low cholesterol is dangerous.

Extremely low cholesterol levels are associated with Crohn’s disease, autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and bacterial infections.

So, why has the AHA released stark warnings against coconut oil, one of the healthiest forms of dietary fat available?

Could it be the millions of dollars the AHA receives each year from pharmaceutical companies?

For example, in fiscal year 2015-16, the AHA reports having received almost $30 million in revenue from over thirty different pharmaceutical companies.

Cashing in on the war on coconut oil

Now, it would appear that the AHA stands to benefit from a string of class action lawsuits in California that are trying to shut down the sale of coconut oil, on the grounds that manufacturers are violating FDA regulations by claiming that coconut oil is healthy.

A recent settlement against Costco names the AHA as the beneficiary of any unallocated funds stemming from the lawsuit: “… any funds from uncashed checks remaining in the Common Fund after claimants’ checks have expired will be awarded… to the American Heart Association.”

Statins: a billion-dollar fraud

In 2013, the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association issued new guidelines for prescribing statins for lowering cholesterol. As a result, one in three U.S. adults are now suddenly eligible candidates for statin treatment.

Lipitor, the most widely used statin, is the best-selling drug of all time, with total sales of over $140 billion. One out of every four Americans over 50 is taking a statin drug — without any scientific proof that lowering cholesterol saves lives.

How has Big Pharma managed to perpetuate the myth upon which their profits depend?

Why do so many Americans and their doctors still believe that cholesterol causes heart disease, when evidence indicates otherwise?

For example: In the August 15, 2017 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine, Cleveland cardiologist Dr. Steven Nissen published an article entitled, ‘Statin Denial:  An Internet-Driven Cult with Deadly Consequences.’

He attacks people who “… whip up fear of side effects, then profit from the resulting confusion by peddling snake oil.”

Oh, and did we mention that, in 2016, Dr. Nissen was paid $80,000 by major drug firms to write papers and do research — including Pfizer, the makers of Lipitor?

It would seem that Big Pharma is trying to buy their way into our minds.

Statins or coconut oil? You decide.

The only people who can lower their risk of heart disease with statins are those who have already suffered a heart attack.

If you have a relatively healthy heart, taking statins may do much more harm than good…

For starters, statins lower naturally-occurring levels of CoQ10 in your body, an enzyme essential for heart health.

Statins carry side effects, including liver injury, memory loss, muscle damage (your heart is a muscle!), and Type 2 diabetes.

Where statins do damage, coconut oil improves health outcomes. It benefits neurological and brain health, improves diabetes and may help slow Alzheimer’s disease. It kills germs, helps repair skin and preserves muscle mass.

Coconut oil is natural, inexpensive and safe.

While we do not urge you to stop medication you are taking without consulting your doctor, the balance sheet seems pretty clearly stacked in favor of using coconut oil to improve your health.

How to choose and store coconut oil

Coconut oil comes in a few different varieties:

  • Organic vs. non-organic: Organic coconut oil should be labeled “USDA Organic,” which means the coconuts were grown without pesticides
  • Refined vs. unrefined: Refined oil has been more highly processed, removing much of the coconut flavor and giving it a higher smoke point which is helpful in cooking. But, oil is refined in different ways. Look for one that uses only chemical-free methods, such as friction, spinning, or heat to remove the oil from the meat.
  • Virgin vs. extra-virgin: Either one is fine. Unlike olive oil, there is really not a noticeable difference in flavor or texture.
  • Centrifuge-extracted oil: This has a light coconut flavor, so if you enjoy the taste of coconut, you would enjoy this. It’s made from freshly pressed coconut milk, chilled, and separated by centrifuge. This is an expensive variety.
  • Cold pressed: has a stronger coconut flavor. It is made from dried coconut flakes, so is considered ‘raw,’ and high in nutrients.

The most important thing is to avoid chemically processed, hydrogenated coconut oil.
