Tree bark for less stress and more sleep (but not under your pillow)

Anxiety does awful things to a person.

It messes with your sleep, your stress levels and is often tied to depression.

If you’re battling anxiety, you could take medication prescribed by your doctor. But will you stick with it? All of those side effects, including memory problems, drowsiness, dizziness, muscle weakness, constipation, blurred vision and more, make it too hard for many people.

If you tried and ditched them, I don’t blame you. But, you’re in luck…

It turns out there’s a tree bark that can provide some natural relief. It helps decrease levels of the damaging stress hormone cortisol in your body. But that’s not all. It can also help you sleep and alleviate depression…

Beautiful flower, powerful bark

Parts of the magnolia tree known as Magnolia oficinalis, has been used in Traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. It’s used to treat anxiety, tension and to promote sleep.

But, Western cultures are just now finally realizing the amazing power found in its bark.

Honokiol, a natural compound in the bark, is considered the secret behind its action…

In fact, Italian studies found that magnolia bark eased anxiety. And that when the bark extract was combined with magnesium, it worked better. It improved sleep and mood, while reducing anxiety and depression in menopausal women.

But how does it work? It’s really quite amazing…

Honokiol actually alms your brain’s anxiety center by reducing your cortisol levels.

You see, cortisol is your “stress hormone.” It plays a very important role in your body by regulating your metabolism, controlling blood sugar levels and managing your “fight or flight” response.

However, when your cortisol is chronically elevated, it triggers weight gain, depression, headaches and more.

Magnolia bark lowers these cortisol levels, promoting relaxation of both your body and mind. It also binds to GABA receptors in your brain, allowing you to fall asleep faster — so there’s no more tossing and turning.

Better yet, it gives you these sleep-promoting benefits without the side effects found in those anxiety medications prescribed by your doctor.

Using magnolia bark to feel and sleep better

You can find magnolia bark supplements either online or at your natural food stores. And for most people it is safe to use. Always check the labels for warnings or drug interactions.

However, as with most medications and supplements, you should not take magnolia bark extract if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. And it may be dangerous to use before surgery. It’s recommended to stop using magnolia bark supplements at least 2 weeks prior to surgery.

The recommended dose for magnolia bark is 250 – 500 mg to promote sleep and alleviate anxiety, stress depression.

It’s always best to start at the lowest dose and then add more if you don’t get the results you’re looking for.

To feel even better, add in 20 – 30 minutes per day of light exercise. Also try meditation and deep breathing exercises before bedtime. Remember to reduce your exposure to blue light from electronics like televisions, tablets and computers at least one hour before bed.

Following these recommendations along with regular use of magnolia bark extract can help you to overcome your stress and feel and sleep better.
