3 supplements that stop unsightly bruising

It seems like those ugly bruises appear so easily, even when you feel like you barely bumped against something. And, it just gets worse every year.

Unfortunately, bruising easily only becomes more common with age.

As you get older, your skin gets thinner, and that pad of fat that cushions your blood vessels — meant to protect them from injuries that cause capillaries to burst and prevent ugly purple bruises — also thins.

And if you’re a woman, you’re even more likely to suffer from easy bruising and its unsightly results.

To make matters worse, those prescriptions your doctor has given you to treat your other conditions are likely increasing your chance of bruising as well.

You see, aspirin and anticoagulant medications, such as Coumadin, as well as antibiotics, can reduce your blood’s ability to clot. As a result, bleeding from capillary damage from even a light bump might take longer than usual to stop, which allows enough blood to leak out to cause a bigger bruise.

And, those topical and oral steroids — you’re taking for your allergies, asthma and eczema — cause your skin to thin, making it easier to bruise.

If you’re tired of those deep purple and red splotches that make your skin look beat up and older than it should, there is an answer… and it’s easier than you might think.

Grab these for skin that looks younger

You can use three supplements to strengthen your blood vessels and support skin that “acts” like younger and healthier skin, resulting in less unsightly bruising.

#1 – Vitamin C

Even minor deficiencies in Vitamin C can result in bruising. Eat more vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables, and take at least 500 mg of a high-quality supplement once or twice daily to prevent bruising.

# 2 – Rutin

Most people have never even heard of rutin, but it’s a powerhouse for maintaining the strength of your capillaries and overcoming easy bruising. Rutin is found in apple peel, citrus fruit, black tea and even buckwheat bran.

In one study, patients suffering from pigmented purpura — those deep purple bruises that worsen progressively — who took 50 mg of rutin twice a day, along with 500 mg of vitamin C twice a day, were completely healed of their bruising within just four weeks.

You should not take rutin supplements with blood thinners without consulting a healthcare provider.

# 3 – Hesperidin

Like rutin, hesperidin is a bioflavonoid found in the peels of citrus fruits. Along with rutin and vitamin C, taking hesperidin can dramatically reduce bruising and strengthen your capillaries.

To maximize the benefits of all three skin savers, consider incorporating 400 to 500 mg of vitamin C and a combination of hesperidin and rutin, totaling 400 mg, into your routine.

Like rutin, combining hesperidin with blood thinners is not recommended. If you’re on blood-thinning medication, it’s best to discuss supplements with your prescribing doctor.

But, in most people, taking vitamin C, rutin and hesperidin is safe and helps strengthen blood vessels and stop the bruising that leaves unsightly marks. Skin can look younger and healthier, and you’ll feel more confident.
