Is baking soda the key to managing autoimmune conditions?

Something most people don’t know about me is that I have an autoimmune disease. It’s called Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (basically a long way to say that my immune system attacks my thyroid, destroying my metabolism and leaving me exhausted and hurting).

And, like many people with an autoimmune condition, I have a long family history of autoimmunity. In fact, my mom has two autoimmune diseases herself — multiple sclerosis and sarcoidosis.

So, I’m always on the lookout for new ways to help our immune systems to work better so that we can feel better and have more good days than bad.

That’s why I was so excited when I read the findings of a brand new study — one that found a simple way to fight the inflammation caused by autoimmune disease using only baking soda.

Yes, that’s right… baking soda!

Promoting an anti-inflammatory environment

Anyone living with an autoimmune disease knows that one of the biggest problems is inflammation.

If you have rheumatoid arthritis, your joints are swollen and hard to move.

If you live with MS, inflammation attacks your nerves in your brain, spinal cord and eyes.

People with celiac disease have inflammation throughout their gut.

The bottom line?

Inflammation causes severe health problems and destroys your quality of life when you’re living with an autoimmune disease. And, finding a way to stop the inflammation could give you back your life!

Now, scientists at the Medical College of Georgia have found a way to do just that with nothing but a daily dose of baking soda.

How does it work?

They found that when healthy people drink a solution of baking soda it becomes a trigger for your stomach to make more acid to digest the next meal and for the cells sitting on your spleen to tell the organ that there’s no need to mount a protective immune response.

In other words, it signals your body to slow down the immune system to stop the inflammation!

And, it accomplishes it after just two weeks of drinking water with baking soda.

Imagine feeling better in just two weeks from today!

How to use baking soda to lower inflammation

But, how much baking soda do you need?

The answer?

Just a half teaspoon in a cool glass of water. Simple, right?

But, be sure to use baking soda and not baking powder since some people get those confused.

Baking powder is made up of sodium bicarbonate and acid salts while baking soda is sodium bicarbonate only.

The one you’re looking for is the one in that yellow box you keep in your refrigerator to keep it smelling fresh.

There are however a few precautions when it comes to taking baking soda internally.

Don’t take baking soda if you have liver disease, kidney disease or high blood pressure or edema and don’t take it within two hours of other medications.

Who would have ever thought that the white powder in that familiar yellow box could be the key to overcoming the inflammation of autoimmune disease? But, with the findings of this new study it’s clear that if you’re living with autoimmunity, from rheumatoid and lupus to psoriasis and multiple sclerosis, baking soda could provide the anti-inflammatory relief you need to get back to living again.
