How fake sugars destroy your metabolism and cause diabetes

Every day, millions of Americans consume some form of artificial sweeteners. They’re trying to avoid the extra calories and sugar most drinks contain. And they probably think they’re doing their metabolism a big favor and avoiding diabetes at the same time.

Nothing could be further from the truth…

My sister-in-law is a prime example. She routinely downs a can of diet soda as her “breakfast” on her way to work. I also saw my parents drink diet soda far more than they ever drank water while I was growing up.

I remember asking them why they would drink them over the normal sodas, since I thought the diet ones tasted terrible.

Their answer was typical for that time (1980s): “We’re trying to lose weight, and these sodas don’t have calories.”

Unfortunately, that type of thinking is still common today. And while the taste of diet sodas has certainly improved over the years, the problems that come along with consuming them haven’t.

Despite the fact that it’s been proven time and time again that artificial sweeteners are bad for our health, millions of Americans still turn to “fake sugars” and diet sodas regularly… still believing it helps lower caloric intake and promotes weight.

Maybe you count yourself in that number.

If so, you may be surprised to learn that drinking diet soda versus the regular, full-on sugar varieties has NOT been proven to help with weight loss. In fact, the latest research shows something much worse: diet soda consumption has now been directly linked to both obesity and blood sugar problems.

Substitute sugars and your metabolic system

A new collaborative study out of Marquette University and the Medical College of Wisconsin reveals that “fake sugars” actually change how your body processes fat and uses energy.

The team of researchers discovered that, while your body can handle the processing of regular sugars in moderation, substitute sugars like aspartame and acesultame potassium completely changes the concentrations of fats and amino acids. And that affects the function of your metabolic system for the worse.

So, drinking these artificial sugar substitutes will NOT help you lose weight. In fact, they will likely make you pack on even more weight, increasing your odds of developing diabetes in the process!

But then, what IS the solution? What’s a simple, effective way to get a taste of sweetness without the risks associated with “fake sugars?”

A natural, no calorie alternative that won’t make you fat and diabetic

I’ve found that the easiest way to reduce the chances of becoming obese or getting diabetes is to use stevia in place of sugar or other artificial sweeteners.

While the most basic option is to grow stevia in your home and put a whole leaf in your drink, most people find that this method leaves a bitter aftertaste (not to mention the work involved).

Another idea is to buy the stevia products you find in health and grocery stores, especially those in packets. But, these are often bleached and heavily processed forms of stevia that aren’t nearly as healthy as they should be.

To me, the best option is a pure, liquid stevia sweetener. Avoid stevia products that contain fillers. Many use erythritol as a bulk filler. You can read here about why erythritol is concerning.

For coffee, I’ll add a few drops of the vanilla or hazelnut flavored version. I also put coconut flavored drops in my water throughout the day. The good news is… Whatever flavor you like best, there is probably a liquid stevia option out there to meet your needs.

By watching out for “fake sugars” and sweetening your beverages with stevia drops instead of those artificial sweeteners, you can slim down while also reducing your risk of blood sugar problems. Talk about sweet rewards!

Editor’s note: Are you feeling unusually tired? You may think this is normal aging, but the problem could be your master hormone. When it’s not working, your risk of age-related diseases skyrockets.
