1. Metabolic imbalances

A study published earlier this year found that unhealthy changes in your metabolism (like those that happen with metabolic syndrome and diabetes) contribute to inflammation and ultimately osteoarthritis. Basically, the study found that people who end up getting osteoarthritis are also dealing with metabolic issues like high blood sugar, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, large waist circumference, insulin resistance and possibly even diabetes.

And what causes these unhealthy metabolic changes? Diet, of course. Just think how different our diets are today than the diets of people 80 or more years ago….

Since it was before the processed food boom that started in the 1950s and 1960s, for example, people were mostly eating whole foods — vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs. And maybe that’s the reason their joints were far better off.
