2. Pistachios can improve eyesight, sexual function and more
Of all the healthy nuts you can eat, pistachios are the only ones that contain the two phytonutrients lutein and zeaxanthin, the only two carotenoids that accumulate in the retina of the eye. Both have been shown to have neuroprotective effects that reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.
And as far as the bedroom is concerned, pistachios can help there, too.
In a study done by researchers at Ataturk Teaching and Research Hospital in Turkey, a group of men ages 38 to 59 who had erectile dysfunction ate 100 grams of pistachios at lunch every day for three weeks.
While maintaining similar dietary habits in every other way, the men showed significant improvement in erectile function. One reason is likely the high content of the amino acid arginine, which boosts blood flow by boosting nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels.
