5 amazing “bedroom benefits” of ylang-ylang

As we age, most of us experience various problems in the bedroom.

Anxiety and insomnia keep us up and away from a restful night’s sleep. Sadness and depression keep us in bed for too long. Pain and stiffness greets many of us as we wake.

And of course, decreasing libido and lack of desire affects a large percentage of today’s over 50 crowd.  Yet, there is a flower from the islands of Southeast Asia that offers a simple and effective solution to each one of these issues…

The cananga tree is native to Indonesia, but is grown in many countries in the region, including Malaysia and the Philippines. Its heavenly scented flower (called ylang-ylang) is often a key part of women’s perfumes and cosmetics.

Ylang-Ylang (pronounced EE-lang EE-lang) and the essential oil derived from the flower is high in antioxidants and as you will learn, can become the ‘go-to” for many of the bedroom challenges we sometimes face.

Sleep easy

Ylang-Ylang essential oil can help you reduce anxiety and stress before bedtime by inducing a sense of calm and relaxation. As a final step before bed, add 5 drops to a bowl of hot water and breathe in deeply as you drape a bath towel over your head. Let the warm steam caress your face for 3-10 minutes.

Enjoy life in balance

Ylang-Ylang oil can also be used to help fight both anxiety and depression. If you are overly anxious before bed or find that you are overwhelmed with sadness, place a diffuser on your nightstand and add 3-4 drops of this essential oil. Soon its calming, antidepressant effects will have you in a better mood and back in a state of control.

A pain-free solution

Getting a good night’s sleep is almost impossible if joint and muscle pains are screaming at you. You can remove those aggravations by making your own rub.

Begin by adding 6 drops of ylang-ylang essential oil to a Tablespoon of carrier oil such as almond. Carrier oils are needed for any applications on the skin, as essential oils are highly concentrated and can cause injury.  Almond oil makes a great carrier oil and is safe on all skin types, has a neutral scent, is not oily and is non-allergenic.

Gently massage in the mixture into the area of tension or soreness and feel the pain melt away. After applying on the affected area and before lying down, place a few drops of ylang-ylang on a tissue. Place loosely over your nose and mouth and inhale slowly 4-5 times. This last step will induce an overall calming effect while reducing your pain symptoms.

Bring back the romance

For those couples looking to get their love life back on track, ylang-ylang essential oil offers a potent solution in the bedroom.

Simply multiply the pain-free solution recipe above by 10 to create an intoxicating massage oil. Add a few drops to your diffuser and envelop the room with this calming, seductive scent. The aromas and its affects are bound to enhance your and your partner’s mood.

Ylang-Ylang essential oil offers several bedroom solutions to overcome the problems that come with day to day stressors and the effects of aging. You can lower your stress levels, balance your mood, reduce your aches and pains, and increase your libido, all with the help of this soft aroma. And, it’s readily available at your local natural foods store or online.
