5. Evening exercise

Exercising regularly is one of the best ways to protect brain health. But it’s not always easy to fit regular exercise into your busy schedule. So, you may need to squeeze exercise in when and where you can, including during the evening hours. Unfortunately, evening exercise can interfere with sleep, which can interfere with brain health.

From a brain health perspective, Dr. Swart says it’s much better to exercise in the morning. In fact, getting 30 minutes of aerobic exercise in the morning makes you 30 percent more productive the rest of the day.

Better sleep and more productivity should be enough incentive to wake up a little earlier to work out. But if you do add more exercise to your life, Dr. Swart says you should also add more water and protein, because dehydration and poor muscle repair from lack of protein can both take a bite out of your brain health too.
