4 health conditions CBD helps the most according to Johns Hopkins
I don’t know what it’s like where you live. But near me, cannabidiol (CBD) is everywhere…
It’s in gas stations, pet stores, big box stores, supermarket chains. There are even CBD specialty shops popping up in strip malls all around me.
On the one hand, it’s great. I think cannabidiol has the potential to improve a lot of people’s health. On the other hand, it’s overwhelming. There are a million CBD choices, which raises a lot of questions…
Which brands are best? And which brands aren’t?
How should I take my CBD? In a drink? In a pill?
Most importantly, what conditions will it work for?
That last question is a doozy. Especially since there’s a lot of misinformation out there about what cannabidiol can and can’t do. But recent research shows that CBD is helpful for at least four health conditions… and probably more.
CBD improves health, pain, sleep, and mood for people with these conditions
Researchers from Johns Hopkins University performed a long, observational study on the health benefits of cannabidiol. Here’s what they found…
People with health problems like epilepsy, chronic pain, autism and anxiety who used CBD had a better quality of life than those who didn’t use it. They reported more satisfaction with their health, pain, sleep, and mood. Guess what else?
Some people in the study weren’t using CBD at first. When they started, they experienced improvements in health, pain, sleep, and mood too.
Researchers are hesitant to say it is an effective treatment for these issues. But they believe the science is solid enough to warrant further studies examining CBD’s benefits for autism, anxiety, depression, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, and epilepsy. Pretty cool, huh?
Unfortunately, these same researchers shared some less positive findings about CBD too…
The sticky side of cannabidiol
Here’s the bad news if you want to try CBD…
There aren’t great regulations in place to make sure cannabidiol products are tested and labeled properly. That means here’s a chance of contamination or that you’re not getting the concentration of CBD you’re paying for. Do you know what else?
There’s a risk of THC exposure in CBD products. THC is the compound in marijuana that gets you high. Now, if you were exposed to THC in a CBD product, it probably wouldn’t be enough to get you high. But it could cause you to fail a drug test at work if that’s something that applies to you.
All in all, researchers hammered home one message — there’s still a lot we don’t know.
So, if you choose to use CBD, always do your homework. Research the brand you’re purchasing, look at online reviews and check their Better Business Bureau rating. I’d even suggest asking for a recommendation from a natural health practitioner who you trust, so you end up with something high quality and effective rather than something ineffective — or even worse — harmful.
