The #1 way to reverse type 2 diabetes

Did you know that type 2 diabetes is far more likely to strike once you hit middle-age?

While there is a lot of advice out there on how to manage blood sugar problems — from prescription medicine to supplements and exercise — science has proven that the most important step anyone can take to control blood sugar and reverse type 2 diabetes is that “elephant in the room” we tend to put off…

And that’s losing the extra weight that comes with that middle-age spread.

A new scientific study has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt why losing the weight works and how it can save your body from the damage blood sugar problems bring.

So, here’s the skinny on why weight loss is not just necessary but absolutely vital to beating type 2 diabetes for good…

Saving your insulin-producing cells

The study, known as the United-Kingdom-based Diabetes Remission Clinical Trial or DiRECT, was conducted to determine exactly why weight loss helps in type 2 diabetes, since that was an area of the science that had been previously neglected.

To figure out the source of improvement, the researchers recruited patients who had been diagnosed with type 2 in the last six years and split them into a control group and an intervention group (which was put on a weight loss program).

And, after one year of either following a strict diet or not, the results were pretty darn amazing.

While the control group continued to struggle with the same diabetic issues as before the study, almost half of the participants in the weight loss group had gone into complete remission.

In other words they were no longer showing signs of blood sugar problems at all!

Here’s why…

According to the researchers, the people whose problems with diabetes disappeared thanks to losing weight experienced the results because the beta cells in their pancreas (the ones that make insulin) had started to function again.

And, not only that…

They were able to quickly secrete insulin the second glucose (sugar) was detected in the blood so they could handle eating foods with sugar without their blood sugar levels spiking out of control.

The sooner the better

But, why did only about half of the people who lost weight get these results?

Well, the scientists had an answer for that question as well.

You see, the people who lost the weight, along with their diabetes problems, too, were the ones who had lived with the condition for a shorter amount of time (on average less than four years)… whereas those who experienced weight loss without completely reversing their diabetes had been diagnosed with the condition between four and six years earlier.

This means that the sooner you start working to lose any extra pounds that you’re carrying around after being diagnosed, the better off you’ll be.

But, don’t despair if you’re out of that four year time-frame… the weight loss is still worth the effort.

That’s because although you may not get rid of your blood sugar problems completely, you’ll still get big benefits.

In fact, participants all participants who lost weight in the study had similar reductions in liver fat content, pancreatic fat content, and blood concentrations of triglycerides (you know… one of the things your doctor tests for when checking your cholesterol to see if you’re at risk for heart disease).

Type 2 diabetes has been considered a lifelong disease that only gets worse as time goes by but that couldn’t be further from the truth. By focusing on weight loss early in your diagnosis, you can completely reverse your blood sugar problems and be diabetes free for life.
