I’ve been through the wringer — knee surgeries, shoulder surgeries — the whole nine yards.

MIT biologists boost regeneration
MIT biologists started the study using intestinal stem cells.
You see, intestinal stem cells decline rapidly as you age, regenerating more and more slowly.
So, what did the biologist decide to do about it?
Well, for many decades now, scientists have known that low caloric intake is linked with longer life spans. Therefore, the researchers set out to see what effect fasting would have on the function of stem cells.
Here’s what they found… After mice fasted for just 24 hours their intestinal stem cells doubled their regenerative capacity.
Yep, that’s right… After only one day of fasting, those stem cells were working double time!
Amazing, isn’t it?
How to fast for better stem cell function
You can do a monthly or even weekly 24 hour intermittent fast in order to boost your stem cell function.
The easiest way to begin your fasting journey is to fast from dinner to dinner or breakfast to breakfast. For example:
- Dinner Sunday at 6pm
- Start Fast Sunday at 7pm
- Fast Ends Monday at 6pm
To help with hunger throughout your fast, you’ll want to drink plenty of healthy liquids like water and green tea, especially at meal time to help your stomach feel full.
Herbal teas, including chamomile, hibiscus and lemongrass can also give you a tasty treat and help your fast pass more quickly.
Be sure to also have good food options like lean proteins and green leafy veggies available when you break your fast. These will keep you from heading out and hitting the fast food drive through and destroying the good work you’ve done.
And, my number one tip for fasting days is to keep your mind busy. The worst thing you can do is to spend your time sitting around thinking about food. If you keep your mind active, your time and your fast will fly.
To get rid of joint pain, feel and move like a younger person, 24 hours of fasting is a small price to pay. Set aside time to fast for regular stem cell regeneration and save your joints and your pocketbook.
