6 health foods that make you fat and sick
Everywhere you turn, someone is giving you advice on what to eat…
Eat this and you’re heart will be healthy… Eat that and you won’t get Alzheimer’s… This food cures the common cold… And, that one will help you lose weight.
To make matters even more difficult, companies have gotten really sneaky about making their foods seem healthy, even when they’re not.
For example, think about all of those fat-free cookies that are advertised as a way to indulge without busting your diet — yet, they’re packed with enough sugar to put you into a coma.
With that in mind, here are six foods that are touted as healthy that you should never, ever eat.
#1 – Unfermented soy
There’s no end to the number of health foods out there with soy on their ingredient list yet, soy is packed with estrogens that can throw your hormones completely out of whack.
And, with the importance of hormones in every aspect of your health, it’s no wonder that soy has been linked to:
- Bladder cancer
- Endometrial cancer
- Thyroid problems
- Breast cancer
- Asthma
- Allergies
The type of soy you should avoid is the unfermented type. Fermented soy, on the other hand, has many well-researched health benefits.
#2 – Farm-raised fish
You’ve probably heard about how the omega-3s in fish are good for your health, especially when it comes to your heart and brain.
But, the fish you want is wild-caught, not farm-raised.
Why?
Because not only do farm-raised fish have far less of those omega-3s than their ocean swimming cousins, they’ve also been shown to have high levels of toxins called dioxins that are linked to cancer development.
#3 – Margarine
Many people who want to avoid too many fats in their diet switch from butter to margarine.
If you’re one of them, you could be doing serious damage to your health.
That’s because margarine is packed with trans fats — the types of fats that can give you type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
#4 – Vegetable oil
In the rush away from fats, you may also be using vegetable oils, like canola oil in your cooking instead of butter or lard.
But, did you know that the hydrogenated oils in these types of cooking oil are responsible for:
- Heart disease
- High cholesterol
- Diabetes
- Poor vision
- Sexual problems
- Lowered immune system
And, to top it off, they make you fat!
#5 – Juice
When I was little, at the start of every cold and flu season, my mom would have us drink a glass of orange juice every day to keep us from catching the bugs going around.
But, the truth is that fruit juice is far from healthy and is not the immune system booster you might think it is.
That’s because it’s packed with almost as much sugar as you find in a soda.
To make matters worse, the type of sugar you get from that glass of juice, known as fructose, isn’t converted to energy for your body like regular glucose, but is instead converted into fat by your liver.
Yup, that spare tire around your middle or extra fat packed onto your hips and thighs could be thanks to your morning glass of juice.
#6 – Agave
Agave has been touted as a healthier sweetener but it’s anything but.
Just like sugar, agave sports massive amounts of that fructose that your body turns into fat so avoid it like the plague and use stevia to sweeten your food and drinks instead.
Don’t be fooled by foods that claim to be healthy but really make you fat and sick. Avoid the six worst culprits above and you’re sure to feel and look better.
