Even though low-carb diets are more popular than ever, a lot of research shows that high-carb whole grains are your best weapon against high blood sugar. Why?

Well, a 2015 study found that eating a fiber-rich diet reduces the risk of diabetes. And guess what food is chock full of fiber? Whole grains, of course. Whole grains also contain a compound called betaine. A 2018 study found that the betaine in a whole grain-heavy diet can lower blood sugar and improve heart function. So, add some healthy whole grains to your shopping list this week, like brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat or millet.
