4 blood tests that could prevent heart disease and stroke

Omega-3 foods

1. Omega-3 Index

It’s been exactly 70 years since the Framingham Heart Study examined its first participant.

The Study was a result of a bill signed by Harry S. Truman, who succeeded Franklin D. Roosevelt as President when Roosevelt died of a prolonged illness which began with uncontrolled hypertension and progressed to heart failure and stroke.

In 2018, researchers at Harvard Medical School and Boston University confirmed what was learned from the decades-long study: that having a higher omega-3 index was associated with a lower risk of heart attacks and strokes.

They also found that a higher index reduced the risk of death from any cause.

Best sources of omega-3s are cold-water fatty fish, like salmon, nuts and seeds and plant oils.
